April has come and gone and it's so hard to believe. Avery's last day of school is tomorrow. She has truly enjoyed 3K this year. She has the best group of kids in her class and the teachers were wonderful. I know she will miss school this summer, but we're planning on keeping her busy. She's doing Little Gym camps every other week, a 2 week swim camp, and dance class on Thursdays. Hopefully, with all of that and trips to the pool and beach, our princess will be a happy camper. Salem is doing great. He is becoming so much more independent. His new phrase is, "I do it myself". He is constantly trying to keep up with what his big sister is doing. They are playing together a lot more now. There are some squabbles, but all in all they do well together.
Health update for Avery-The pediatric gastro. sent us to the Children's Hospital to have an endoscopy, biopsy, and pH sensor. We stayed in the hospital one night, so it wasn't too bad. We found out that Avery has a sliding hiatal hernia and damage to the lower 1/3 of the esophagus. She also refluxed 48 times after the sedation finally wore off, but none while she slept. The diagnosis now is a combination of acid reflux & rumination syndrome. Normally rumination syndrome doesn't have espophageal damage. The hiatal hernia is contributing to both issues, but the doctor wants to avoid surgery (as do I!). Avery is on a multi dose reflux med protocol and dietary restrictions for 2 months. Then behavioral therapy after that. In addition, we were sent to an ENT because we noticed Avery is having trouble understanding us. It turns out that she has partial hearing loss in both ears to do fluid build up from the reflux. The ENT is giving us time on the reflux meds and a month of Flonase. If hearing hasn't improved, then she will be getting tubes in her ears for a couple of years.
A couple of weekends ago, Avery, Mom, Aunt Connie and I drove to Atlanta for a girls weekend. Mom surprised Avery with an early birthday trip to The American Girl store and Bistro. It was so awesome. The hotel near by even had an American Girl package with special treats and decor for the birthday girl. Any of you out there have a little girl, this is an amazing trip to do with them. Avery adored every second of it. We also got to spend some time with our cousins that live near by. We haven't seen them in so long! It was wonderful being with everyone. Thanks so much, Mom, for a fabulous trip!
