Salem Firsts & Avery Activities

I finally broke down and gave Salem his first haircut at 11 months old.  I trimmed 'the bang', his random sprouts of long hair and then evened up around his ears and neck.  It was emotional but I had to pay more attention to his wriggling than anything else.  Here is before:
And AFTER:
After us giving up on Salem crawling, he finally did it at 11 1/2 months old.  We couldn't believe it! Of course Aunt Shaunna was here and he must've felt the need to show off ;).

Salem has been sick this whole last week with a virus and double ear infections.  Fever, rash all over his body, tummy issues.  He was a sad little man.  He is on the mend now, thank goodness.  Here's our sick puppy still looking cute, but feeling lousy.

Avery started swim camp this week.  It's at a neighborhood pool and is for 3-5 year olds. She is one of the youngest there, but she's keeping up quite well.  Her teacher says if all her kids were as happy and smiley as Avery in the pool, she would want to come to work all the time. Here are a few pics from her first lesson.
My parents gave Avery an awesome easel set for her birthday.  It has been a huge hit.  Here is our little artist in action.  Thanks, Poppy and Sitti! And thank you, Aunt Connie for the really cute smock!
Avery can now ride her tricycle all by herself.  She has had the pedaling down for a while, but the steering was...well, a work in progress. Here is our big girl:
We got Avery a junior tennis racket and youth tennis balls for her birthday.  Here she is showing off her overheads.
Last but not least an ode to Salem's hair:
Half straight, half fuzzy
Oh, Salem's hair how I love thee!

Avery's 3rd Birthday, Mother's Day, My Birthday

We had an action packed weekend-Avery's Birthday, my birthday, and Mother's Day all within 2 days! Our weekend began with a Mom's run.  Shaunna did it with me and it was her first 5k. I'm so proud of her. It was a lot of fun and a good way to get the blood flowing before Avery's big party.  I found a chick to hang with and crossed the finish line at a not too shabby 26:38 (8:35 mile).
After the run, it was party time.  Avery had the best third birthday.  Wonderful food, wonderful friends and family.  A huge thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate. Happy Birthday to my big girl!
That night after the party, our community had a jazz concert and picnic at the park. The music was great and we had a blast walking around and scoping out the over the top picnic themes.  Avery also got her groove on.  Such a talented little dancer :).
My family spent the night and we celebrated Mother's Day and my 29th?? birthday.  We had a lovely lunch and spent some quality time together. What a great way to end the weekend!
