Our January did not go as expected. Little Salem got very sick and ended up in the emergency room on New Years Day. We had been to the pediatrician twice and after 6 days of a high fever and other symptoms, we drove to the ER when vomiting started. The ER sent us home thinking it was a virus and bacterial infection. We were on our 3rd antibiotic with no response. Two days after the ER, Salem couldn't walk or stand without pain and we ended up at the pediatrician again. She immediately got us admitted to the infant care ward at our local children's hospital. Thank goodness the doctors there figured out that Salem had Kawasaki's disease. Although he was missing 2 major symptoms of it (strawberry tongue and a rash), he had all of the other ones. They placed him on immunoglobulins and aspirin. The next day he was walking and felt so much better. He stayed in the hospital for 3 days and was out of school for 2 weeks. He's been on aspirin to prevent blood clots and we have had multiple cardiology visits for heart echoes. So far everything looks good. He'll have one more cardiology visit in the summer and hopefully be in the clear.
After Salem started feeling better we did get to take the kids to a hockey game with some friends. They had the best time. Salem really really wanted them to bump into each other and the wall. He thought it was so cool!
